Interviews from the Daoist World: Louis Komjathy
Daoist Scholar-Practitioner | Priest & Community Leader
Hello,
I hope this edition of the Nüwa Newsletter finds you well.
Below you will find an interview with renowned scholar, translator and Huashan Daoist priest, Louis Komjathy. Louis is also co-founder of the Daoist Foundation, which is a non-profit organisation dedicated to fostering authentic Daoist study and practice.
Louis has been an immensely important teacher and friend of mine over the years. As well as sharing essential guidance and orientation, it was through Louis’ example and teaching that I began to understand how a deep commitment to Daoist practice could be combined with intellectually rigorous study of the Daoist textual tradition.
In this interview, we begin by speaking about how Louis first came to Daoist practice, followed by his time in China and ordination. We then discuss academia and Louis’ own approach to Daoist study and practice. Our interview finishes with details about the Daoist sanctuary and retreat centre that Louis is in the process of establishing at Stone Bowl Farm, rural Vermont.
If you would like to know more about Louis’ work, publications and upcoming classes, you can do so via the Daoist Foundation’s website.
If you would like to support tradition-based Daoist practice in North America, please consider making a donation to the Daoist Foundation’ fundraiser. All donations go directly towards the construction of a unique space in the West for the preservation and teaching of Daoist practice.
道炁長存,
Oscar
